The Boy and the World - Brazilian animation
The film is a Brazilian animation from 2013, written and directed by Alê Abreu. It has already been sold to more than 80 countries, in addition to being one of the five Oscar nominees for best animated film in the 2016 edition of the award (it lost to nothing less than “Fun Mind”).
In the story we follow Cuca, a boy who lives in a distant world, in a small village in the interior of his mythical country. Faced with a lack of work, the father leaves home and leaves for the big city. Sad and bewildered, the boy packs his bags, takes the train and goes to explore the new world in which his father lives. During his journey, Cuca discovers a society marked by poverty, exploitation of workers and a lack of prospects.
The story works well for children, due to its dazzling features and explosion of colors, in a mixture of painting and collage. The little ones can also identify with Cuca's character. At the same time, it also works for adults, since in our view we feel how this work conveys a much deeper message, and ends up having sad and bitter tones behind the surface color.
Whatever your age, what matters is that it is very worthwhile to embark on this journey.
